     Our bond with the Native community was enigmatic, because most of the time we fought a common oppressor. Recall the proverb: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Whites enslaved Natives first and introduced Black slaves shortly there after. That built a mutual loathing of the slave masters.

     One of the most crucial figures in the American civil and human rights movements, Rev. Rhett H. James, who also helped to pioneer significant desegregation efforts in Texas, was honored posthumously at the 41st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gala, Saturday, January 14, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas.

History Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale will honor six new impactful women who lead our community during “Women Trailblazers: Champions of Change – Broward County” presented by UKG, set for March 9 – 31.
