       In March of 1827, two courageous Black men—Samuel Cornish and John B. Russwurm—published the first edition of Freedom’s Journal in New York City. With that bold act, they established what we now know as the Black Press of America.

Based on his viewpoint that the historic contributions of the Hip-Hop generation has largely been ignored by popular culture, actor and Comedian Doug E. Doug has released his first novel titled, “The Fall of 1987,” which tells dramatic story of a young Black man investigating the mysterious death of his brother during the rise of the Hip-Hop genre.

     “I am very proud that the Tiger Trail Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary,” said Edward Phillips, event chairperson. “Originally, this program was conceived to celebrate the importance of Black History Month, but today in the spirit of inclusion, the festival honors ‘Agents of Change,’ celebrating the contributions made by  all of Pompano Beach’s citizens, Black and white, who have contributed to building our city, through services and economic empowerment.”
