Although restrictions have been lifted in some states, I still believe it is important to take safety precautions. When the president and vice president do not take COVID-19 seriously, it causes a domino effect.

So if the leaders show a lack of caution, it is likely that many citizens of America will also follow them and not be as cautious about safety.

However, we, as African Americans, have to take extra precautions because we are being affected at a disproportionate rate by the virus.

If Vice President Mike Pence will not self-quarantine, even though his press secretary has tested positive for COVID-19, one has to wonder what message is he sending to the rest of America!

I believe, in order for the Coronavirus to die down, we need to continue to take safety precautions. We need to continue to wear face masks, keep exercising social distancing, and stay home to stay safe. By Layla Davidson
