     On that day, which has become known nationally and worldwide as the Orangeburg Massacre, members of the South Carolina National Guard and South Carolina Highway patrolmen opened fire on student advocates. The group had gathered on the campus in protest after three nights of escalating racial tension over efforts to desegregate All Star Bowling Lanes, which was located in downtown Orangeburg. Students Samuel Hammond Jr., Delano Middleton, and Henry Smith were murdered while 28 others were wounded.

         I was privileged as a family member to attend the spectacular retirement sendoff for Mrs. Bertha Watson Henry, whose highly successful tenure as Broward County Administrator  began in 2008 and comes to a glorious conclusion later this month, February, which obviously is Black History month, so apropos because she has assuredly left an indelible imprint on Broward County and its citizenry.

     Although Georgia prosecutors proved Ahmaud Arbery’s killers guilty of murder, lawyers for the federal government are trying to prove that the three murderers of Ahmaud Arbery chased down the 25-year-old jogger because he was Black. However, this case might be harder to build. Prosecutors are trying to prove that the three White men tried to kidnap Arbery due to his race, which resulted in his death. On top of serving life sentences on state murder convictions, this can potentially be steep fines and more time behind bars if they find defendants guilty.

Save The Date:  Sunday, February 20, 2022! Greek Unity Day 2022 is coming to Mt. Hermon AME Church!  Our dynamic Pastor and spiritual leader, the Rev. Henry E. Green, III and Mt. Hermon members are excited to celebrate this 39th annual observance at 9 a.m. at Mt. Hermon, located at 401 NW 7th Terrace, Fort Lauderdale.  This celebration will be in person and virtual for all persons wanting to attend.  Please note that if you do plan to attend the in-person celebration, all COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols will be strictly enforced.

     With all the digging and tilling of the soil, whatever has been buried will be un-covered. It doesn’t matter how long something is buried; it will remain there until it is recovered. One of the reasons pirates looked for “buried treasure” is because it was still there. So just like energy, things buried in the soil isn’t destroyed. Its contents are not immediately accessible
