The Florida Department of Education announced Friday that more than 50 math textbooks have been rejected from the state’s curriculum for the coming school year, citing references to critical race theory as one of the reasons for the rejections. According to the announcement, references to critical race theory, “inclusions of Common Core,” and the “unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in mathematics” were among the reasons textbooks were rejected. 

After federal health regulators declared that a bigger number of patients will be able to receive fourth doses of the two messenger RNA Covid-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, more people will be able to have second Covid-19 booster shots. Adults 50 and older who have had three previous mRNA doses are eligible for a second booster if it has been at least four months since the first. Four months after their previous booster, anyone who had two doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination can receive an extra mRNA dose.

Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on party lines — 11-11 — but there are still options for the panel or the Senate Democrats in charge to push her nomination to a vote in the coming days. If confirmed, Jackson will be the first African American woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
