To whom much is given much is expected

We often say things but not realizing the impact of that which is being stated. There are a lot of clichés, Proverbs, and biblical verses that I could recite to help me understand and how to carry this new responsibility. A responsibility that I campaigned for and was elected to carry it out.

In accepting a role in leadership, that role extends itself to far reaching plateaus that now may seem insurmountable because you may think one has nothing to do with the other-untrue.

For instance, gun violence, affirmative action, banned books, Roe versus Wade, Brown versus the Board of Education, healthcare, social injustices; it all involves Leaders who have accepted the challenge to do just that and that is to lead. To lead- to find the answers to address some of the pains and aches of a hurting people who may suffer at the whims of a fascist and dishonest government

Even before I began to sit and contemplate the responsibilities and oversights of what may be new to me however, in the words from Ecclesiastics of whom some have been referred to as the preacher, “there is nothing new under the sun”. This offers me a pathway into this journey.

Let me first start by saying thank you, thank you to God for answering prayers and for putting a team in place to handle unseen circumstances.  As the newly elected Chairman of the National Newspaper Publishers Association, the Black Press of America I do understand that collectively leaders are called upon to address those issues that each of our organizations are faced with.

And I have chosen to believe and to address the issues collectively with the concept of TEAMM (Together Each Accomplishes Much More) and that extends outside the bounds of our organization.  It is the premise of which I believe we can achieve and accomplish those things that are beneficial to the people we serve. As I stated earlier to whom much is given much is expected.

In the Book of Luke 12:48(NIV), it reads. “But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked”.

To the leaders of the various organizations, we look forward to addressing, overcoming, and “speaking truth to power” while pressing forward to make a positive difference for the people who we serve.

Leadership is not for the faint of heart.
