Attorneys for Gov. Ron DeSantis late Monday urged the Florida Supreme Court to toss out an attempt by suspended Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren to get reinstated, arguing the issue should be decided by the state Senate.

A judge has cleared the way for a class-action lawsuit alleging that Florida’s Medicaid program has violated federal laws by denying coverage for incontinence supplies for adults with disabilities.

      Three men whose graves were found at the original site of one of the nation’s oldest Black churches were members of its congregation in the early 19th century, a team of archaeologists and scientists in Virginia announced Thursday.

     In 2023, “March Madness” took on a new meaning. Traditionally known as the nation’s premier college basketball competition, this year that moniker could also describe the madness that sprang from the closure of two banks with combined assets of $322 billion that affected consumers and small businesses in over 15 states.

     In 2000, Audri Scott Williams, the first woman to lead a global walk for Human Rights and Environmental Justice, led a group of five women and one man on a three-month walk on the Appalachian Trail where escaped slaves sought freedom along with Native Americans.

      In 1959, decades before Tiger Woods became the most dominant Black golfer in history, there was Bill Wright. Bill Wright became the first Black golfer to win a United States Golf Association [USGA]  event. Tiger faced slurs and racist disgust about his playing on the tour. That harassment pales in comparison to the vile abuse a Black golfer in the late ‘50s had to endure. 

     Being invited to the White House is traditionally reserved as a coveted reward for the team that wins the championship. The coincidence of first lady Biden inviting a majority White runner-up team signifies White privilege. I’m not aware of any situation where the team that lost a championship got invited to the White House, but it’s particularly difficult for me to imagine the same treatment being afforded to a majority Black team that was the runner-up.

The league also announced its latest decision on charter flights.

  As we mark the 55th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, we cannot ignore the ongoing fight for human and civil rights that persists today.  Dr. King so eloquently noted in his last speech, ‘I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,’ the reality that our country remains a work in progress, calling on America to ‘Be true to what you said on paper.’  Fast forward to last night: Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book, and other peaceful protestors were arrested while demonstrating against the state’s latest draconian abortion ban.  Our right to protest and speak freely without fear of legal intervention ought to be safe – but that’s unfortunately not the case in Ron DeSantis’ Florida.

Former President Donald Trump has been arrested. He surrendered to authorities at the courthouse in Manhattan at around 1:30 p.m. ET.
