     “Spaces devoted to the history and legacy of people of color, especially women of color, are far too few in America today,” said John Legend. “Preserving places like the Simone childhood home will help keep her powerful story alive. This campaign pays tribute to Nina Simone’s unapologetic pursuit of musical, personal, and political freedom and I am proud to be a part of it.”

      The first edition of Art of the City: Block Party will be headlined by LaVie, a South Florida born songstress who is known for her sultry vocals and rapturous personality. The event will feature live performances throughout the evening by musicians, vocalists, emcees, poets and dancers such as the high-powered Elements the Brand, dynamic vocalist Carolena and Epiphany, an amazingly gifted poet.

     Scheduled to launch June 8 at the National Harbor, from 1–9 p.m., Culturefest features international artists, including Reggae icons Aidonia; Romain Virgo & The Unit Band; Tanto Metro and Devonte; and SOCA superstars Patrice Roberts; Skinny Fabulous; and Afrobeat legend Timaya and the image band. Culturefest’s Co-founder Freka Scott says, “This one, will be one for the books.”
