The setup for this shoot ’em up started with the 2013 short film They Die by Dawn, the brainchild of Jeymes Samuel, aka “The Bullitts.” He’s a British singer-songwriter, producer and writer/director who is also the brother of the Grammy Award-winning musician Seal. In the past, Samuel would make films to accompany his album releases. They Die… fits that pattern and featured Western characters based on real people: Nat Love, played by Michael K. Williams and Stagecoach Mary portrayed by Erykah Badu. Eight years later, after a perfect gestation period, The Harder They Fall comes to theaters and Netflix and its genius is no fluke. It’s been nurtured by Samuel and co-writer Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans) who’ve thoughtfully created a wild West tale of biblical proportions with a new cast and additional characters.

Even behind the dark shades and the baseball cap with the “Aint To Proud” logo, one could see Williams’ genuine expressions.  “The music lives forever,” Williams deadpanned. “Life isn’t like a record that you can rewind.”

     Songstress Solange has used her artistry and activism as avenues to uplift, and her latest project is centered on using literature as a source of empowerment. According to Variety, her platform Saint Heron is launching a free library that features the work of Black creatives.

     Accomplished “Jane the Virgin” and “Supergirl” actress Azie Tesfai, can now add writer to her list of credits, making Arrowverse history as the first actor in any Greg Berlanti-produced series to pen an episode on any of his shows, with her co-writing episode 12 of the sixth and final season of “Supergirl,” which sees her character Kelly Olsen become the ‘Guardian’ and address racial inequality. Her episode drew an incredible ratings bump—up almost 20% from the week prior and rising even higher with the DVR numbers in place, most importantly underscoring the audience desire to see important stories being told authentically by women of color. The final season is currently airing every Tuesday at 9 p.m., on the CW, with the last episode airing Tuesday,  November 9th.
