       After returning to Fort Lauderdale, she and her sisters attended the Old Dillard School. She loved playing basketball and singing with the Chorus.  In 1955, history was made by her performance to sing on the PBS Channel accompanied by her chorus teacher Mrs. Rhoda Snead. Because of her academics acumen – Class of 1955 – she was chosen as Salutatorian.

The family of Atatiana Jefferson, an African American mother from Fort Worth, Texas, who was shot and killed by a police officer in October 2019, has reached a proposed $11.25 million settlement with the city. The agreement comes nearly six years after her death.

     Peter (Will Smith) is a slave in 1863, on a cotton/onion plantation in rural Louisiana. He’s whipped by an overseer, bullied for his defiant behavior, separated from his wife and children, and sent to work on the railroads. Hearing that President Lincoln has issued the Emancipation Proclamation, Peter and other captives escape and head towards Baton Rouge seeking out Union soldiers who control the city. Chased for ten days by slave hunters and tracked by dogs through a labyrinth of bayous, his goal is to find freedom and reunite with his family.
